Each semester, the RTG program hosts a luncheon for women trainees, featuring a faculty role model from within or outside UNC. The luncheon provides a space to share and discuss the unique challenges, experiences, and opportunities for women in STEM. This semester, the luncheon will take place on November 7th, from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at Carolina Union Rooms 3206AB. We are honored to have Prof. Hai “Helen” Li from Duke University as the faculty role model.
Prof. Li is the Clare Boothe Luce Professor and Chair of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Duke University. She earned her B.S. and M.S. degrees from Tsinghua University and her Ph.D. from Purdue University. Her research focuses on neuromorphic circuits and systems for brain-inspired computing, machine learning acceleration, trustworthy AI, and the design of conventional and emerging memory systems. She also works on software and hardware co-design. Prof. Li has served as the Associate Editor for several IEEE and ACM journals, chaired or co-chaired numerous IEEE/ACM conferences, and served on the Technical Program Committees of over 30 international conferences. She was a Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE CAS Society (2018-2019) and a Distinguished Speaker of ACM (2017-2020). She has been recognized with prestigious awards, including the NSF Career Award, the DARPA Young Faculty Award, the TUM-IAS Hans Fischer Fellowship from Germany, and the ELATE Fellowship. Prof. Li has received nine best paper awards and another nine best paper nominations. Prof. Li was named an IEEE Fellow in 2018 for her contributions to neuromorphic computing systems and an ACM Fellow in 2021 for her work on neuromorphic computing and deep-learning acceleration. She is a Fellow of both ACM and IEEE.
