2018 Holiday Party
December 7, 2018The Department of Statistics and Operations Research held its annual Holiday Party on December 6th. Amid the food and fellowship, the following awards were presented to graduate students:
Ph.D. students Michael Conroy, Haipeng Gao, Yang Yu and Zheqi Zhang received Graduate Student Teaching Awards. Deyi Liu, Yiyun Luo, Jonghwan Yoo and Aleksandr Touzov received the Cambanis-Hoeffding-Nicholson awards for their excellent academic performance as first-year Ph.D. students.
The Deemer Excellence in Teaching Award was presented to 5th year Ph.D. student Iain Carmichael (creator of the popular undergraduate course Introduction to Data Science). Also this year a special award was made to M.S. student Scott Smith for his mentoring of fellow students.
