Annual department awards
February 10, 2021While we were unable to hold an in-person gathering to celebrate the end of year holidays, the Statistics and Operations Research Department quietly presented the following awards to outstanding graduate students at the end of the fall semester:
Cambanis-Hoeffding-Nicholson Award (for outstanding academic performance during first year of PhD studies): Ben Brown, Puyao Ge, Taebin Kim, Haixu Ma
Walter L. Deemer Excellence in Teaching Award: Brendan Brown and Adam Waterbury
Excellence in Teaching Assistance and Instruction Award: Weibin Mo and Jiaying Li
Service and Mentorship Award: Benjamin Leinwand
The third award was expanded from previous years to recognize graduate students for outstanding job as teaching assistants, not just as instructors. The fourth award recognizes graduate students who contribute significantly to enhance various aspects of our graduate program and the experiences of graduate students.
The faculty and staff of the Statistics and Operations Research Department congratulate all on their excellent performance in service to each other, the department, and the students of UNC!
