On the algebraic aspects of Optimization
Abstract: Real Algebraic geometry (should not be confused with algebraic geometry) is the study of algebra, topology, and geometry on a category of sets and functions described by polynomial equations and inequalities, so-called the category of semialgebraic sets and semi-algebraic functions. In this talk, I will present a summary of my past and current research at the interface of optimization and real algebraic geometry. More precisely, I will elaborate on the Łojasiewicz inequality, NewtonPuiseux theorem, and Morse theory, and highlight their applications to semi-definite optimization, polynomial optimization, and superlinear convergence of interior point methods.
There will be happy hour following this talk
